    Printed on paper

    87 x 45.7 cm, Edition of 25

David Hockney’s vivid gladiolus studies form part of his late iPad works, created while living in Normandy. Executed digitally then printed on paper, the three vertical compositions function as a single work, each stem arranged with a quiet, deliberate elegance. Hockney uses intense colour and crisp light to heighten the clarity of the flowers, treating the everyday subject with the focus normally reserved for landscape.

The edition of 25 reflects the rarity of this recent floral series, which has quickly gained attention among collectors interested in Hockney’s continued reinvention of traditional still life through digital tools. The set captures what drives his late career: a belief that technology can renew the act of looking at the world.
  • "To me, the world's rather beautiful if you look at it. Especially nature."

    - David Hockney

Working digitally allows Hockney to respond to what is in front of him with precision and speed. Rather than building surfaces over long periods, he draws directly with light and colour, producing compositions that feel immediate while still carefully judged. When translated into print, these images take on a presence far beyond their everyday motifs. With relatively small edition sizes and a growing focus on this chapter of his practice, his iPad works are increasingly understood as a significant evolution in Hockney’s approach to looking and recording the world.
